The Arts and Crafts Movement was a design movement started by William Morris in the UK in the 1860s. He wanted craftsmen to return to an 'honesty' of materials and design. The emphasis was on hand-produced items which were often too expensive for the average man or woman. The style of Arts and Crafts was therefore much copied by mass producers, who catered for this market.
